Finding the Green

The Cherokee Indians used to say that when we show respect for other living things, they respond with respect for us. This simple, yet powerful creed embodies the philosophy that brought Mirimichi to life. The vision for this special place was not just to build a golf course. Our owners wanted to honor the land and the living eco-system that Mirimichi shares with nature.

Our development team worked closely with Audubon International to ensure that ecologically responsible methods were utilized to enhance water quality, wildlife habitat, and to reduce water and energy consumption. The result? A golf destination that comfortably protects the balance of nature with features that are environmentally forward-thinking.

Some of the ways in which Mirimichi is protecting the environment include:

Golf Course

  • First Audubon International Classic Sanctuary Certified program in the country
  • Reflective coatings on parking lots to reduce the heat footprint
  • Capture and re-utilization of rainwater run-off in surrounding landscape areas
  • Reduced manicured acreage on the golf course from more than 195 acres to less than 100 acres. This is accomplished by the design and implementation of native grass areas, waste bunkers and enhanced water feature acreage
  • A “state of the art” irrigation system that maximizes efficiency of water management; thus reducing water usage
  • Increased lake area and creation of re-circulating creeks to feature scenic vistas and create a habitat environment that supports an entire ecosystem

Future Clubhouse

Mirimichi’s future clubhouse will be designed and constructed utilizing green building and performance measures. These measures will substantially reduce water and energy consumption, protect indoor air quality and occupant health, and use sustainable building materials that include local and recycled materials, as well as reduce the amount of construction waste diverted to area landfills.

Growing the Game

Mirimichi is also home to world-class practice facilities, including a unique 18-hole putting course, a large bunker and chipping short-game practice area and a driving range. Little Mirimichi, a 9-hole, par 35 course, provides a faster, easier and shorter golfing experience and allows golfers an opportunity to learn the game or improve their skill sets. Mirimichi will house an official Callaway Performance Center.

Here, golfers can be custom fit to exacting personal specs with guidance from our highly trained golf instructors using the same Callaway Performance Analysis System that fits professional tour golfers.
